Summer 2000 | ||
| Between May and August 2000, MATRIX, the College of Arts and Letters and African Studies Center at Michigan State University will host two workshops for participants from West and South Africa. During May, "The Internet and Women's Democratic Organizing: Promoting Civil Society and Democratic Networking in West Africa" workshop will bring ten women activists, lawyers, jounalists and NGO directors from Mali, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria to campus. | ![]() |
For three weeks in July, MSU will also host 24 guests from cultural heritage institutions across South Africa and 6 faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States. Coordianted by the MATRIX, the College of Arts and Letters, the African Studies Center, Michigan State University Museum, and the CICALS, this project is part of the larger "Binational Parnterships for South African Culture, History and Education" endeavor, and is supported by funds from the Andrew W. Mellon and Ford Foundations. | |

Building Bridges The goal of the project is to facilitate the use of the Internet by African scholars and to build bridges of communication across the globe. H-Net and Michigan State provide intensive training and support for key personnel at various African Universities who then serve as trainers for faculty, graduate students, and staff at their home institutions. |
