Internships

SANCH views internship as an important way to develop cultural heritage. As a way of exchanging cultural heritage professionals to share knowledge, resources, best practices and to gain the knowledge that only come in conversing with other cultural heritage professionals. To date SANCH has sponsorred several internships. Those being:

  • Hallie Stone of Indiana University was based at Durban Local Museums from May to June 2001, and extended her stay for a year to complete research on dance in shabeens.
  • Cheryl Dixon of Dillard University was based at the Durban Art Gallery from 30 June-31 July.
  • Ronald Dorris of Xavier University visited South Africa from 30 May to 15 July. Initially based in Durban, he conducted a one-week short story workshop at the Govan Mbeki Centre at UDW. He also delivered addresses at the KwaMuhle Museum and Johannesburg Art Gallery.
