Workshops
Annual
workshops have been held in South Africa in successive years to
take up specific cultural heritage issues such as oral history methodology,
disaster planning, copyright and intellectual property that have
been identified in consultation with SANC to review project performance,
refine the program agenda, and identify candidates for future training
opportunities. Such meetings significantly strengthen the coordination
of this program and further an international discussion of national
heritage studies issues.
In
addition, these meetings will provide opportunities to continue
conversations among South African cultural organizations begun during
the November 1999 Workshop, the first time that many representatives
of these institutions had engaged in face-to-face discussions of
cultural heritage training issues. These annual workshops assist
our partners in transcending existing barriers to communication
and also serve to extend the training opportunities provided by
the Institute to a broader range of cultural workers in South Africa.
Faculty from the workshop has been drawn from United States and
South African participants.
